World Animal Day

On the 4th October is World Animal Day protect what you can!

Here is a picture of a Manta ray which really do need protection. Some facts about manta rays. Each human has a unique fingerprint that can be used to identify them. Manta rays can be identified because each does have a unique spot pattern on their belly!Mantas give birth to a single pup at a time, after a 12.5 months gestation period. Pups are independent from birth.

Ocean surface clean-up. It took us over 2h to clean up everything. Not all of the plastic sinks it’ll float on the surface and is often pushed together in big patches by current and waves. Often Marinelife will try to eat it as they don’t know what it is and can’t try with their hands can they? Once eaten it can not be digested and will often remain in the guts. Marine Life often will starve to death due to their stomach is filled up with indigestible plastic as well as microplastic which will go into their organs and humans will eat fish again, it’s a circle isn’t it? In every fish we find dead we bring back and dissect it we always find some kind of plastics in its stomach. Scientist already found microplastic in human organs. Not only anymore in our stomach as it was discovered in the early year of 2008. We need to cut back on single plastic use. Marine Life Conservation Ao Nang Krabi

Marine Life Conservation Ao Nang Krabi successfully removed an abandoned fishing net with over 250 kg in weight and 100m in length.

We successfully removed the huge abandoned fishing net from a reef on Koh Haa at Ao Nang local islands today!
It was at least 250kg and 100 m long by 20m wide. The green cotton nets are very hard to remove from the corals they get strongly entangled into branching corals also because it just doesn’t rip. We use scissors to cut them out of the branching corals but it’s a monumental slow work. 6 divers working for 4h. So 24h work in total. Thank you very much to the Mu Koh Phi Phi Marine National Park staff which also came and helped us removing the net. Also big thanks to Ryan Gary Brent and Daryl.

Removing abandoned fishing net from a reef at the Local Islands Ao Nang marine national park.

Fishes can easily get protection on a reef inside Corals where the net isn’t reaching them however if the net gets entangled into the branching and whip corals of a reef and the fisherman isn’t able to pull it up again mostly they cut it off on the surface and abandon it due it’s cheaper to buy a new one.

Unfortunately then the reef is left with wide spread in Corals entangled abandoned fishing net. Fish Corals and other Marine life can post entangle into it and die of choking or starving to death. That’s why it’s so important to remove the abandon net. Poseidon Dive Center does a lot of Marine Life Conservation Ao Nang Krabi. In fact we are the only Dive Center who does Marine Life Conservation work in Ao Nang Krabi.

#Nemo Amphiprion ocellaris, false percula clownfish. All anemonefish are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they first develop into males and may become females later in life. Anemonefish exhibit phenotypic plasticity when males, females, and juveniles inhabit the same anemone. Today is shark awareness day! Humans kill 100 Mil. Sharks per year, mostly for their fins. That’s per second around 3.6 sharks killed and 0,94 born. We take them out more than 3 times faster than they can reproduce. We need the sharks it’s a reef cleaner, it eats old and sick fish. 9 people get attacked by a shark per year 8 of them survive! It is increasing though, a reason for that is that 90% of Fish stock in the open Oceans is declined, sharks don’t find enough food anymore! But that’s just my personal opinion. Nevertheless, More people get killed by a falling coconut or a soda pop machine than by a shark. Many more people get killed by starvation 8 Mio. to be exact no one cares! Or in traffic accidents 3500 people killed per day! Just amazing what TV and Medias do to us! Our new Marine Life Conservation Project is to protect our Sharks. Peacock mantis shrimp (Odontodactylus scyllaru). The mantis shrimp has one of the most elaborate visual systems ever discovered. Compared to the three types of colour-receptive cones that humans possess in their eyes, the eyes of a mantis shrimp carry 16 types of colour receptive cones. Furthermore, some of these shrimp can tune the sensitivity of their long-wavelength vision to adapt to their environment. The midband region of its eye is made up of six rows of specialised ommatidia—a cluster of photoreceptor cells 12 for colour sensitivity, 4 for colour filtering. The vision of the mantis shrimp can perceive both polarised light and multispectral images. Their eyes mounted on mobile stalks and capable of moving independently of each other are similarly variably coloured and are considered to be the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom. Even if you know where and what it is it’s properly camouflaged and hard to spot. But I’m sure the ones of you with a trained eye spotted the juvenile black-blotched porcupinefish (Diodon liturosus) straight away?! Things you might only see once in your life time of scuba diving. Baby Brownbanded Bamboo #Shark 💙🦈❤️ (Chiloscyllium punctatum). This one is only 30cm in length. Protect our #sharks we need them. The oceans will not survive without sharks. They are reef cleaners. They eat old and sick fish and keep the numbers in check. .
